2010 NMFSA Golf Outing

desertgreenAs you may have noticed, we have changed the venue of our golf outing this year.  Desert Greens Golf Course is a privately owned, eighteen hole public course on the west side of Albuquerque. The vintage course's tree lined fairway -with all holes fronted by bunkers on each side of the greens- provides an exciting and challenging game. The highly regarded course, will host the 2006 Sun Country Pub links championship and the 2006 USGA United States Pub links qualifier.
Desert Greens measures 6,808 yards and is presently being expanded to exceed 7,000 yards for tournament play. The course is established with three sets of tees with a fourth set to be added in the winter expansion.
Desert Greens has some of the finest practice facilities in the state with a full driving range and putting green and the new chipping green, added this year.

Desert Greens has a well stocked Pro Shop with a wide variety of golf clubs, Adidas and Nike clothing, as well as Titleist, and Calloway balls and all necessary golf essentials to make your round enjoyable.our golf outing this year.  Please be at the golf course by 11:30 for lunch.  Tee off time is slated for 1:00 PM.

Big Changes in Our Association

nmfsa-pres-leishmanOver the last several years we have enjoyed a close relationship with the National Funeral Director's Association.  As a matter of fact, we have been a "Partnership State".  Being a Partnership State with NFDA has given us many benefits.  Those benefits were outlined earlier this past year and are on the website under "Presidents Articles".  While those benefits are impressive there are is also a down-side.  Because you are a member of the New Mexico Funeral Service Association, you must be a member of NFDA, and vice-versa.  Because of that, we as a board feel like there are funeral homes in the State that we are excluding from our association because they do not want to belong to NFDA.  There might be many reasons for that, but the over-riding reason is that these funeral homes may want to join another National Association, ie, ICCFA, or one of several others available to them.  We feel it important to become a "Choice State", giving every one the opportunity to join any National organization that they wish. It is important that we have your in-put and that your voice is heard.  Please read this article carefully and then come to convention prepared to make comments on this proposed change.  After you have had an opportunity to voice your opinions, we will vote on this change.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Letter from NM Board of Thanatopractice

January 2, 2007

Dr. Ross Zumwalt, M.D., Chief Medical Investigator
Office of the Medical Investigator
University of New Mexico
Albuquerque, NM

Dear Dr. Zumwalt,

At the New Mexico Board of Medical Investigators Meeting on December 4, 2006, there was discussion concerning the charging for transporting of human remains back to funeral homes from the OMI Office in Albuquerque as a means of cutting costs because of a shortage of funds.

I had proposed to you that the New Mexico Board of Thanatopractice and the New Mexico Funeral Service Association thru their lobbyist Johnny Lee Thompson could assist the OMI Office in securing funding thru the legislature. I had requested that you perhaps draft up a letter for us so that we can pursue that avenue.
